About your role

As a research software steward you contribute to our ambition to make healthcare organizations in the Leiden region leading FAIR locations, promoting people's health. We embrace FAIR principles and Open Science practices to create FAIR data and FAIR software that can be applied in automated workflows, including federated machine learning and AI.

You actively collaborate with various stakeholders, including data stewards, researchers, and software developers, to implement a development culture that enables automated reuse of research software. Additionally, you develop guidelines for managing research software and provide training to implement these guidelines. You contribute to metadata models describing research software and collaborate closely with software developers to implement these models and develop tools for managing machine-actionable metadata. You support other (research) software developers in using these tools to improve findability and reusability in automated workflows. Furthermore, you build a network within the LUMC and participate in relevant (inter)national communities in the field of research software management.

About you

  • BSc, MSc, or preferably a PhD degree.
  • Experience in research software management and software management plans. Experience with software management plans is a plus.
  • Understanding of FAIR principles and machine-actionability.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., R or Python) and best practices for software development, including documentation, version control, and licensing.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and maintain a professional network.
  • Support and training of software developers.
  • Full professional proficiency in English at C1 level or higher. Proficiency in Dutch is a plus.

Our offer

Driven by health; that's our mission. This applies not only to our patients but also to our employees. With Future@Work, we guarantee a pleasant working environment and provide room for development. In order to be able to continue to learn and develop, we offer internal and external training. You are also entitled to an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), holiday allowance, sports budget and bicycle scheme. Furthermore, as an employee of LUMC, you are also affiliated with the ABP pension fund. This means that 70% of your pension premium is paid by LUMC, leaving you with a higher net salary.

About your workplace

You will work for Advanced Data Management (ADM), part of the Biomedical Data Sciences department. ADM is the central facility for research data management and data stewardship. ADM offers support on all aspects of data stewardship in clinical research and contributes to new developments in this area through consultations and training. In addition, ADM is a partner in (inter)national projects that work with other systems for data management. ADM's role within these projects is diverse: from setting up a database and implementing FAIR data, to taking care of data releases. Developments within data stewardship are following each other in rapid succession. We respond flexibly to this, which means that we are a learning and dynamic team.

You will collaborate with data stewards, researchers and research software developers that are part of the LUMC Data Competence Center (DCC) network including among others the Biosemantics group of the Department of Human Genetics. Additionally, we collaborate with various national and international organizations.
