Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Hematology

Prinses Maxima Centrum - Utrecht - 07-05-2024 Naar vacature

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to our ongoing projects in molecular hematology.

Research focus

You will play a key role in the design and implementation of
in vitro
culture models using primary human hematopoietic cells, with a particular emphasis on single-cell genomics technologies. Additionally, experience with CRISPR technology will be highly valued as we explore gene editing approaches for functional studies in hematopoietic cells, particularly in the context of cancer treatment-associated late effects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize in vitro culture models using primary human hematopoietic cells to study the consequences of cancer treatment.
  • Perform single-cell genomics experiments to characterize the molecular and cellular changes induced by chemotherapy exposure in hematopoietic cells.
  • Utilize CRISPR technology for gene editing and functional studies in hematopoietic cells, with a focus on understanding the underlying mechanisms of treatment-associated late effects.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, and contribute to manuscript preparation and publication.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to a vibrant research environment focused on hematological disorders and cancer treatment outcomes.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Hematology, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in setting up and optimizing in vitro culture models using primary human hematopoietic cells.
  • Extensive experience in flow cytometry.
  • Proficiency in single-cell genomics techniques, including library preparation and data analysis, with a focus on hematological contexts.
  • Strong molecular biology skills, with experience in CRISPR technology preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment focused on hematological disorders and cancer treatment outcomes.
  • Affinity with computational analyses is preferred.

Our job offer

We offer you a full-time position (based on 36 hours a week) in a very stimulating and interactive research environment. You will also have the opportunity to actively collaborate with various research groups at the Princess Máxima Center. You will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and resources and opportunities for professional development and career advancement in the field of molecular hematology. We also offer you a collaborative and supportive work environment with mentorship from experienced investigators. The contract will be initially for one year, with the possibility to extend upon satisfaction. Your gross monthly salary will depend on your experience and background, starting in scale 60 with 8,33% gross monthly salary holiday allowance and 8,33 % end-of-year bonus. The Princess Máxima Center operates according to the collective labor agreement ‘cao algemene ziekenhuizen’.

Previous postdoctoral researchers in our lab have been highly successful in obtaining prestigious personal grants, highlighting our commitment to fostering the career development of our team members. As part of our lab, you will have access to unique mentorship opportunities and support to advance your career in biomedical research.

The Boxtel group

We are a dynamic and innovative biomedical research group focused on advancing our understanding of hematological disorders and developing novel therapeutic strategies. Our lab combines cutting-edge molecular biology techniques with state-of-the-art genomics approaches to dissect the molecular mechanisms underlying hematopoiesis, disease pathogenesis, and the late adverse effects of cancer treatment. We have pioneered methods to study the genomes of single hematopoietic stem cells, allowing us to delve deep into cellular heterogeneity and dynamics to achieve our research goals.

While much cancer research is focused on curing the disease, the mechanisms underlying treatment-associated late effects in survivors, particularly in hematological contexts, remain unclear. Cancer treatment has improved gradually in recent decades, leading to an increase in the number of survivors. However, late adverse effects of cancer treatment, including those affecting hematopoietic stem cells, will likely become one of the biggest future challenges in cancer research.

The Princess Máxima Center

The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is an integrated hospital and research institute, which integrates healthcare, research and education on pediatric cancer, in a single location in Utrecht. Our institute aims to provide the highest level of care for all children with cancer, with optimal quality of life. The center brings together the best possible care and scientific research, creating a unique interdisciplinary institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.
