Humanitarian Business Development Officer

(35 hours)

 

Position in the organization

The humanitarian business development officer works in the office of Plan International based in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and is part of the Humanitarian team within the International Programme Department.

Day-to-day activities:

As humanitarian business development officer you will work in a diverse and dynamic team on the development, monitoring, reporting and compliance of humanitarian projects. You will do so in collaboration with colleagues both in the Netherlands and our country offices.

More specifically, this role has a high focus on Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA) proposal development and ECHO proposal development and can include project management, ensuring Plan International is further capacitated in being a high quality and fast responder in Humanitarian situations with a specific focus on (adolescent) girls in crisis.

Alongside other Business Developers and in collaboration with project managers you develop proposals for ECHO and DRA projects (and other donors based on need), together with the Country Offices:

  • You will both support and lead proposal writing;
  • You review budgets ensuring that donor compliance requirements are met and that correct templates are used;
  • You edit work done by Country Office colleagues, ensuring that their technical expertise is well-written and packaged convincingly for external readers;
  • You liaise with Country Offices and/or donors.
As and when required you may additionally manage and ensure compliance of humanitarian programmes:
  • You manage humanitarian programs in collaboration with our country offices including the development of work plans, facilitation of startup workshops for new programs, and monitoring of project progress and delivery of results;
  • You are responsible for donor compliance including writing and editing reports and meeting deadlines on humanitarian programs;
  • You support country offices in ensuring quality program implementation, together with the technical experts and work with the Project Finance Team to review burn rate reports and expenditures.

We look for:

Our ideal candidate for this position operates with a strong sense of team spirit and seeks collaboration but is equally able to make informed decisions independently and rapidly. Prior experience in the Humanitarian sector is a strong advantage, preferably in a dual-mandate organization. Experience in ECHO’s Single Form structure in all its stages, from proposal development to modification requests and reporting is an asset, as well as experience in working with DRA projects. In this role you will liaise closely with other teams in the International Programmes department such as the Project Finance Team and the Knowledge Learning and Innovation team as well as with the Plan International global federation.

You meet the following criteria:
  • Masters degree in international development (or related) or a Bachelor degree with relevant experience;
  • Excellent writing skills in English;
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to work under pressure;
  • Pragmatic, critical thinker with excellent problem solving skills and a very pro-active attitude;
  • Familiarity in Microsoft Word and Excel is a requirement;
  • Preferably at least 2-4 years of professional experience in humanitarian programming.
  • In-country experience in implementing and managing humanitarian programs is an advantage;
  • Experience with successful fundraising in humanitarian settings, including developing high-quality proposals to institutional donors,
  • A team player with excellent and proven communication skills;
  • Conversant with the international humanitarian architecture and an understanding of Humanitarian standards incl. Core Humanitarian Standards, SPHERE, International Humanitarian Law;
  • Proficiency in Dutch, French and/or Spanish is an advantage;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to humanitarian crisis project countries;
  • Affinity with the work and values of Plan International, including our gender transformative approach.
You will be based in Amsterdam with the potential for visits to Plan International’s program countries when required (sometimes at short notice). This is a very dynamic role which requires strong flexibility in working hours (incl. evenings and/or weekends), especially when working on proposal design

Plan International offers:

An inspiring job in an international organization with an inviting atmosphere. A fulltime workweek with us is 35 hours. These hours are usually flexible and could, for example, also be spread out over 4 working days. We facilitate hybrid working and work for 50% or at least 2 days a week in our office in de Baarsjes in Amsterdam.

Plan International offers its employees a solid benefits package, which includes, among other things:
  • Gross monthly salary between € 3.250,- and € 4.400,- gross per month for 35 hours per week, depending on your background and experience.
